Note: Always replace your struts in pairs, where applicable. Most liftgates have a strut on each side. Failure to replace both struts can result in a warped or damaged hinge.
Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your liftgate stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without bouncing or slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your liftgate to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we'll take a look at this custom-fit hatch lift support gas strut. Now, this is a custom-fit part. It is designed to fit the 2003 to 2008 Pontiac Vibe vehicles. And on a custom-fit part like this, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show if this will work for your application. Now, this strut here will replace one warn or damaged ball and socket gas strut on your vehicle's hatch.
The arm on the gas strut right here will extend to hold your hatch open and gently compress when you're closing. It does use dampening technology to provide nice, smooth operation that eliminates any bouncing or jumping. It ensures frictionless movement in all weather conditions. The shaft portion right here is a nitride coated steel shaft. It is corrosion resistant for long-lasting performance.
And the tube itself right here is powder coated for superior corrosion resistance. Now the connectors on each end, they are nylon and ball and socket connectors, which will install directly onto your existing OEM fittings on your vehicle. And they're pretty easy, pretty easy to install. All you have to do, on each end there's a little retaining clip that goes around the top here. To remove the strut, the old one, which you wanna do is pry up that clip and then remove the old strut from the ball that's on the vehicle.
And then to install this new one all you need to do is line up the socket right here over the ball and then push it into place. And when you do that, that retaining clip will pop in and hold it in position. There are no special tools required to install this. Now it must be installed in the same position as the one which is being removed, and it is always recommended to replace these gas struts in pairs. Again, this is for a quantity of one lift support.
Connection type is a ball socket. Length on this length is always measured from center of this ball socket to the center of the other one. So if we put our tape measure on that center to center you can see is right at 19 inches extended length. And when this is fully compressed, the length from center to center will be 11 5/8 inches.
